Villa Galini, Agios Markos, Corfu

For up to 6 People

About the Accommodation

Villa Galini stands majestically on the mountainside above Agios Markos, with stunning views of the coastline from Ipsos to Corfu Town.  It's set amongst olive groves in a tranquil location at the end of private road, away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.  It's so peaceful and quiet, that's why we called it Villa Galini - Galini being Greek for serenity or peace.

The villa has its own private pool, outdoor dining area under all-day shade and purpose-built barbeque, so it's perfect for those summer family chill-outs.  In the off-season, it's perfectly suited to hikers (being located on the Corfu Trail), runners, artists or anyone fancying some peace and quiet.

The villa is actually about 18 mins walk from Ipsos where you'll find the pebble beach, restaurants, things to do, shops and of course the nightlife for entertaining the young adults in the family (and the old adults too!).

However if you're arriving by car, it's a deceptive journey to the villa as you have to drive inland about 1.2km and then back out towards the headland on a private road which is 'authentically Greek' in places.  Therefore we suggest if you're hiring a car that it's something proportionate to the terrain and number of passengers and suitcases!  You can actually drive up and down the walking route too, although it is steep and narrow, so only for the brave!

Inside, and downstairs, Villa Galini has a spacious living room (or third bedroom by way of 2 double sofa beds) which is naturally cool and airy, as is the whole of the ground floor.  We've provided a pool cupboard with spare towels, and a 'bottle swap' facility (where you can make use of toiletries and suncreams that other clients have left). Opposite the downstairs toilet is wardrobe space for anyone staying on a sofa bed.  The dining room seats 6 comfortably and the kitchen is really well equipped with everything you'll need for a family stay.  There is no air conditioning downstairs but the design of the house and air flow through it means there's no need.

Upstairs are the 2 bedrooms both of which are ensuite with a full bathroom including a bath tub with shower over in each.  The main bedroom hosts a king-sized bed and opens out at the front on to a huge balcony which wraps around the side of the villa.  The second bedroom has two single beds (which can be set up as a super-king for a small additional charge and its own private balcony.  Both bedrooms have double-doors to the rear giving access to the olive terraces.  We have had air conditioning fitted in the bedroom but have not had cause to use it.  With the double-aspect doors left open and the fly screens shut, the fragrant sea breeze is naturally directed up the mountain-side and straight through the bedrooms - a far more sensuous experience!

There is no focus at all on electronic equipment in this villa!  There is wifi and fairly good 4G network coverage.  There's a TV but we don't know if it works yet!  Bring your own portable speakers if you want a sound experience but the essence of the Villa Galini offering is to switch off, chillax and bond.  We think nature has provided everything you need here!

Villa Galini is not suitable for children from toddler to 'responsible' age due to neither the swimming pool nor the olive terraces being fenced off.   So there is no highchair provision (although a cot for a young baby can be provided).  Villa Galini is suitable for less mobile guests as long as they can manage the stairs to the bedrooms.

If you have any further questions, please contact us and we'll be happy to assist.

Notes

We acquired Villa Galini at the end of May 2023 and whilst we have worked like trojans to provide you with first rate accommodation and stay, there are some things which we know need attention that we can't give until the autumn.   However these jobs should not impact either your safety or your experience in what we believe is an exceptionally well located, designed and built villa.  If you have any concerns please do contact us immediately, and if you have any constructive feedback we'd love to hear from you after your stay!

Neighbourhood

Villa Galini is situated in a very quiet area and is one of a pair of villas up the hillside, so there is no-one to overlook you either!   Next door is Michael, a local Greek resident who is actually the architect who designed and built the Villa and shares the gated environment with us.  He is very helpful and speaks fluent English.

Noise-wise, it's just the cicadas!

Transport

You fly into Corfu Kerkyra Kapodistrias Airport (CFU).

If you're travelling from the UK, don't forget to check your passport validityYour passport must be: issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’) and valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’): https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/greece/entry-requirements

We can arrange transfers to and from CORFU airport, or car hire for your stay - just let us know if we can help you.
